Hunting With History

  • Welcome to Hunt With History! I’m John, the host of this Blog. A little about myself and the future of this blog: I am a fishing and hunting guide in southwest Colorado who also has a deep interest in history. With winter coming up I have decided it was time to bring my interest in hunting and history together and out to the world. As a hunting guide I frequently run into the cutting edge of modern hunting technology, particularly firearms. Let me be clear that there is nothing wrong with modern firearms, I own plenty and use them regularly. There are definitely things I’m not a fan of but as a pragmatic individual, I’m generally all for whatever gets people into the woods with a tag in hand. Hunting is conservation and without it we wouldn’t have the thriving wildlife we enjoy. The purpose of this blog is to look back to the hunting technology that got us to where we are today, through stories of modern hunters still carrying those antiquated pieces produced between 1880 and 1970. Those 90 years represent the pinnacles of change from single shot rifled muskets to our contemporary modern sporting rifles and semi automatic shotguns. Join me in exploring this era of our hunting history through the lens of the firearms that made it so.
